The evening began with us going into nostalgia mode as we stepped into Eat Around the Corner (EATC). In its previous avatar as Just Around the Corner, the all-day eatery had hip Bandraites thronging it as there were few such dining options. Yours truly was a frequent visitor – with every weekend entailing a visit to JATC.
Reinvented as EATC three years ago, the restaurant with interiors et al went in for a much needed upheaval. White was chosen as the dominant colour giving the restaurant a fresh look. Cool, serene and welcoming, EATC is our go to place for leisurely breakfasts, and late night desserts. So, when the restaurant announced the launch of a new menu, it was an opportunity that we just didn’t want to pass.
Empanada stuffed with spinach and feta cheese were the appetisers that we began our meal with. Looking like karanji (Maharashtrian savoury) – it was served with ketchup and parsley sauce. The cheese was negligently present in the Empanada but the amalgamation of spinach and garlic is a sure shot winner. Next, on the table were cottage cheese Cubanos – sandwiches stuffed with bell peppers, aubergine, caramelized onions, and cheddar slice. The sandwiches served with coleslaw were light and the grilled aubergine complimented the cottage cheese well. But, the same cannot be said for the chicken Cubanos. Not a big fan of the chicken and aubergine combo, we would definitely pass the chicken Cubanos.

Our mains comprising brown rice risotto and penne Alfredo looked spectacular. The risotto was so well plated that it was heart breaking to dig into it. But, as George Bernard Shaw aptly says, “There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” And, we couldn’t resist taking a spoonful. Cooked with arugula leaves and parmesan, this roasted squash risotto was divine. The pasta seasoned with oregano, basil, and thyme was equally good but would be a tad better had it been infused with a dash of spice.
The last course of the meal was churros served with chocolate sauce. Generously doused with cinnamon, the churros were the perfect end to a night of laughter, conversation, and delicious food.
Would we return? Oh yes, definitely for the risotto and the pasta!

Our favourite eatery’s new menu is exciting, and refreshing in this summer heat. To beat the heat, head to EATC for the light and flavoursome munchies. The Tapas platter, risotto and pasta gain our recommendations and should be definitely tried.
