About The Vehicle

The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is a well-built pickup truck cum lifestyle vehicle for private owners. It comes with a dual cabin and has a seating capacity of five people. The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross comes from a brand having a deep legacy of making superb engines (V-Cross is said to have been tested for 40 lakh Km of testing internationally) and the vehicle with its intimidating presence has stirred a buzz in the market for adventure utility vehicles, which was previously tried on by Tata by their Xenon XT and Mahindra by their Scorpio Getaway. It comes in one trim level (with a 2.5L turbo diesel engine that produces 134 hp and 320Nm of torque), a shift on the fly 4WD system as well as a 5 speed manual transmission.

Why You Should Buy This Vehicle

The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross has an imposing street presence and it offers a bang for your buck that you spend (Ex showroom Delhi price of INR 12.72 lakhs). It has a reliable 2.5L engine that comes with a 3 year/1,00,000 Km warranty from Izuzu (a brand whose engines were a part of our lives back in the HM Contessa and Ambassador days), it has a 4×4 system with a low range transfer case (for all the real off-roading), the best build quality in the class, comes with dual airbags and ABS, EBD and Brake Assist as standard which offer good stopping power. There is also a trip computer and a tilt adjustable steering wheel. It can easily fit in five adults and still has a separate cargo bay (with a loading capacity of 265 Kg) to load in the bikes/a tent for the getaway run from the city.

Why You Should Not Buy This Vehicle

One of the reasons you shouldn’t consider buying this car is because the vehicle has a bumpy ride on the back seat (mainly due to leaf spring suspension, which the Isuzu technicians say can be customised at an added cost), which makes it comfortable only for two people on the front seat. There is a fair amount of body roll as well (typical to a tall body on frame ladder chassis vehicle). There is no head unit/stereo in a 14-15 lakh rupee car (although steering mounted audio controls are standard!), the price in which you can opt for a fully loaded compact SUV. It is a cumbersome vehicle in the city due to its heavy hydraulic power steering and sheer weight of 1905 Kg, the pickup isn’t like a rocket. The dealer network is also not too great (although this wont be required much as Japanese vehicles are known for reliability).

Overall Verdict

The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is a capable vehicle that has a rugged appeal and is a premium adventure utility vehicle that offers creature comforts of an SUV with the added utility of a loading bay at the rear. It even appeals to someone who is out to buy a Mahindra Thar (due to the price point, off road capability, refinement and ride quality).  The car has a lot of modification potential offered by Isuzu India and a lot of Malaysian kits are also available for it. It is an amazing value offering by Isuzu in India and big mark on the Indian automotive industry as being the first widely accepted AUV.
