Our annual pilgrimage (yes, you read it right!) to Goa happened in monsoon this year. Visiting Goa once a year is de rigueur for it’s an irresistible combination of sparkling water (the sea and not champagne), pristine beaches, delicious food and tonnes of susegaad (Goan word for the typical laid back attitude.)
Being the monsoon season, we opted for a location that was bang in the middle – neither down south nor up north. Close to the Dabolim airport and Panaji city is the newly opened Planet Hollywood Resort. And boy, were we delighted with our stay!
The Hotel Lobby
Spread over 12 acres, this luxurious resort is situated at Utorda – Goa’s only white sand beach. The chic and vibrantly done up hotel has elements of Hollywood omnipresent. From photographs of stars, their signatures, to dialogues and tag lines from famous movies – Hollywood is everywhere.

Our spacious room was embellished with close ups of Monica Belluci, Mila Kunis, Harrison Ford, Charlie Chaplin and the likes. The room well equipped with the usual electronics had a very interesting surprise that awaited us- the foot massager. The hotel should be complimented for its very thoughtful gesture – one that will be loved by all weary travellers. An instant hit with us, the foot massager is an ideal companion while you potter around. Another considerate offering is the ‘Charging kit’ that comprises of various chargers for our necessary evils – the phones and tablets. So, you don’t have to fume in case, you have left yours behind.

The highlight of the property is the 14,000 sq feet swimming pool that lies in the centre of the hotel along with a jaccuzzi and a baby pool. Adorned with luminescent mosaic tiles, the pool is brilliantly clean and inviting all the time. Though the pool shuts at 9:30 p.m., the hotel is willing to let you take dip at night if you request them prior. And, if you are the one who prefers to laze with a beer in hand, then head to the gazebos that line the pool.
Walk by the perfectly manicured lawns, serene larger than life Buddha statues, the volleyball area and head to the deck that opens onto the beach. A lovely place to just chill and relax, watch the waves and the sun set while the sky breaks into myriad hues.

Whilst at Planet Hollywood, head to The Pink Room Salon and Spa for some serious pampering. The spacious spa has five treatment rooms of which one is a couple massage room. Each therapy room has an inbuilt steam section and shower area. Choose from an extensive range of massages (Swedish, Aromatherapy, Balinese massage, Deep tissue) to body polishes, scrubs and wraps.
The Treatment Room
To get rid of the tan while soaking in the sun, we opted for a Soundarya spa ritual. The 90 minute therapy began with a soothing foot ritual followed by an aromatherapy massage using a blend of essential oils of Clary sage and French lavender. Quiet and super-efficient Tenzing excelled at her massage. But, like all good things must end, we had to break off the reverie and head to the steam room that was recommended as it helps the pores to open. Next was a body scrub made of natural ingredients like green gram, turmeric, sandalwood, milk, etc. to polish the skin and de-tan. Result was a relaxed and rejuvenated body with well-moisturised and glowing skin! What more can one ask for?The spa indulgence was cherry on the cake – a fitting end to a super holiday in the arms of luxury and opulence.
We left Goa with a heavy heart but a determined resolve to be back soon! And yes, would definitely be back at Planet Hollywood to relive the fabulous memories.
