Superfoods are high in nutrition as they contain the much needed vitamins and minerals, which when eaten in the right quantity can do wonders to your skin and body. Below is a list of five superfoods that you can munch-on while doing the desk work. Their benefits? They are easily available, easy to carry, low in calories, nutritious and hence can be a part of your daily healthy diet plan even while working at your desk!
Flax seed – Flax seed are known for high levels of omega- 3 fatty acids and they have anti-inflammatory properties.The fibre-like chemical compounds –Lignans found in flax seed prevent breast, colon and prostate cancer. The seeds are easily digested when mixed with yogurt, oatmeal, baking mixes and smoothies. Their salty roasted version are also easily available in the market which can be munched-on too.
Yogurt – High on protein and potassium, you should include low fat or fat free plain yogurt in your diet which is good for your colon. In case you are not too fond of yogurt you can opt for skimmed milk rather than full fat or toned milk by using it in your tea or coffee every day, as it has just 83 calories per cup.
Eggs – Eggs are economical and a great source of proteins. Apart from being rich in proteins, eggs contain 12 vitamins and minerals and consumption of eggs has been proved to be good for brain development and memory. They can be eaten at any time of the day but its best is to have them for breakfast as you might end up eating less calories during the day. Also boiled eggs are a great healthier option to have as an evening snack in the office.
Berries – Satisfy your cravings for sweet with berries! You can pick your favourite form of berries and munch on them at any time of the day as they keep you satiated for a longer duration and also keep a control on your blood sugar. Rich in fibre and high in water content, berries such as blueberries and cranberries are widely available and are a good source of antioxidants.
Nuts – We tend to avoid nuts considering their high fat content, but by doing so we also miss out on protein, heart-healthy fats, high fiber and antioxidant. Small dose of nuts daily will not be harmful to you and they will help in lowering your cholesterol levels as well as help in weight loss.All kinds of nuts, be it pistachios, almonds, peanuts or walnut fills you up for a longer duration.
